Choo Choo

Max is obsessed with trains.  You can faintly hear them in our house if you're listening for them.  Anytime Max hears one go by he says "choo choo".  He gets very excited seeing them & hearing them close by.  So what luck we had when we drove by the New Braunfels Civic Center on Sunday after church & saw a marquee that said there was a "train convention" taking place that day.  After a conversation over lunch it was decided that after naptime we would make a trip over to show Max the trains.  Oh & after a change of clothes into his conductor outfit of course...

Walking into the civic center hall felt like walking into an episode of I Love Toy Trains (Soup fans will know what I'm talking about & oh yes you could buy the dvds there).  It was a ridiculous amount of train paraphernalia, clothes, magazines, books, dvds, toys, anything basically that would have to do with trains.   What was more entertaining was checking out all the middle-to older-aged gentleman who apparently have an obsession/fetish hobby with toy trains.  There were huge models & villages set up with all sized different trains.  It was as if we had taken Max to Mecca.  He was sooo happy.  The entire time we were there he pointed & continuously said choo choo.  It was probably the highlight of his year.

After the fun festivities of the convention we decided to head over to Landa Park & take him on the train ride there.  He had ridden on the train when we first moved to New B, but this was different.  Now that he actually knows what's going on & is in love with trains he was in heaven.

So this was something that I never in my wildest dreams would have thought I'd do.  If you had told me before having Max that I'd be visiting a train convention I would have thought you were on crack or that I would have to be on crack to go, but apparently for the love of seeing joy on your child's face you really can suck it up & do the most lame activities in the entire world.

I'm pretty sure he enjoyed himself too since the first thing he said to me the next morning was choo choo.  I think he dreamed about trains...
